New : a week in the forest

all-inclusive with activities - yoga, Qi Gong, meditation, forest walks, nordic walking ...

In the 1970s, Angèle Van Dijck, of Flemish origin, met Robert Strohmenger in Belgium - the start of a wonderful love story. They decided to return to nature and chose to move near Robert's childhood village of La Petite-Pierre, in the Vosges du Nord Nature Reserve.

Captivated by this magical place, in 1981 Angèle and Robert decided to build a small hotel in a clearing in the forest. The idyllic scene was made complete with a few sheep and goats grazing on their pastureland. It took several years, considerable technical prowess and a great deal of hard work for the couple to make their dream come true.

Having started out with just ten rooms, the hotel expanded to fifty rooms in just twenty years. Its leisure facilities included an English bar, an indoor swimming pool and a team-building Challenge Course.

In 2001, Angèle and Robert retired. Their daughters, Lisbeth and Kareen, took over the management of the family business.

Between 2002 and 2005, the whole family put their heads together to design, develop and build a "Well-being Spa". In keeping with the holistic approach of well-being, the restaurant began to focus on using organic ingredients sourced from local producers. It was not long before it became the first hotel restaurant in France to be certified as organic. Little by little, La Clairière was transformed according to a consistent strategy: to develop the character of the hotel in parallel with the personal philosophy of its owners.

This approach was taken a step further, involving the guests by introducing them to new, healthy lifestyle choices. Convinced by the benefits of complementary therapies, Lisbeth obtained an MSc in Complementary Medicine and is therefore a qualified Ayurvedic therapist herself. She also trained as a Yoga instructor in both London and India. Lisbeth and her sister Kareen decided to rejuvenate the hotel and drew up plans for a holistic health establishment that would become the cornerstone for a new way of life. They continue to share their passion and philosophy of life by offering introductory Yoga sessions and welcoming internationally known practitioners to conduct various treatments and therapies based on the beneficial properties of the forest.
